cascarones

easy. fun. and oh so worth the mess.
these are a fond Easter memory i have of growing up in houston, tx.

I originally grew up in sharpstown and every Easter my mother would make these confetti eggs, or cascarones. It's actually a possibility that she only made them once, but you know kids remember things they love in a way that they think they did it 'all the time' even if it was only once.

Even if you don't see this in time for Easter it's a great party activity as well, especially with little kids. Simply break the top of an egg, empty and clean out, let dry, fill with confetti, glue a small piece of tissue paper on top and break on someone's head! They bring those you crack them over good luck, and lots of laughs.

With the leftover egg we make egg sandwiches, french toast, or scrambled eggs. however we should make something that correlates more with the culture of the cascarones; like flan.

Happy Easter.

super cute and wonderful photographs! I posted a link (my last homage to eggs) on my edible crafts column at craftgossip.com, if that's OK....at ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com. Thanks for sharing!
